About me...
Alex Moomey (me) is from Little Rock, Arkansas nestled at the toes of the Ouachitas foothills and alongside the Arkansas River. This schizophrenic place combines the moods of the Mississippi delta with the Ouachitas and Ozark Mountains in an urban environment. These surroundings are what mainly influence my photographs. In my work, the over-brush, woods, bluffs, grasses, and trees in many of my photographs are all settings along with concrete, buildings, and lamp-lit streets that find natural dialogues with the naked body.
These places compliment the figure and speak to it’s being in the world with their stage-like settings. Each one I feel is an ambiguous narrative to be told in the mind of the viewer.
A conjunction of the time-consuming staged image and the quick point-n-click snapshot is the process I use.
I try to concentrate on the figure because I feel the human element is an integral component of art. It is perhaps the only element I can confidently claim is always present. Often, I make the figure naked for this reason. Clothes cover the figure with identity and additional meaning sometimes making it difficult for the viewer to relate to the other in the photo. It is a small gesture I can make to better reach the imagination of the viewer.
